Sunday Notes 1.1.12

Every Sunday at church I always takes notes on what I learn. I will be posting those notes on here every Sunday (or in today's case, Monday because I didn't have time to do them last night).

Sacrament Meeting
-My new favorite hymn: "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief"
-"...Whosoever repenteth will be saved..."
~Not whosoever doesn't sin, or mess up, or make mistakes. We all make mistakes!
-Men will be saved through Christ's grace, after all they can do
~We often focus on the after all we can do part, but we should also focus on the miraculous gift that Christ gives us-- His grace
~What good is this gift (or any gift) if we don't accept it?
-Ways to accept Christ's grace in our lives:
1. Faith
2. Repentance
3. Humility
4. Doing all in your power
5. Keeping the commandments
*Try the best that you can! That's all HF asks of us
*Pray for help through the Lord's grace and power

-Cool fact: We have 53 Sundays this year!
*Resolution: Come unto Christ through covenant making/keeping and faith in Christ and the Atonement
-To have confidence or trust in someone = faith
-To hope in something that is not seen, but is true = faith
-It's okay to be unsure of the future, but do not doubt what is told to you through the Holy Ghost about Christ, or anything else that He tells you
*Commit yourself to something that will bring you closer to the Savior

-"The 1st days of the new year reflect what your whole year will be like"
-Christ's water is Eternal Life-- drink that first and you won't thirst again!
-Christ always answers in one of three ways:
1. Yes
2. Not yet
3. I have something better for you

-The hardships in our lives are manifestations of Christ's and HF's love for us
~Because they give us a chance to use our agency and to choose the right
~It's a chance to show HF how strong we are & how capable we are so that we can receive blessings
-I will get closer to God by reading the BoM than I will through ANY other book
-You can find beauty in any season of the year, if you look outside
*Resolution: Deny yourself of all ungodliness, and Christ's grace will be sufficient for you
-I am not someone to be acted upon, but someone with the ability to act

Sunday School
-The BoM brings a changing power in our lives
-As you put more effort into understanding it, the doctrines will become more applicable and clear to you
~Testifies of Christ and how we need to live
-The BoM is not just a "nice book". It was written for us in our lives & for our challenges
-The first part of the BoM isn't 1st Nephi-- it's the Title Page
~2nd paragraph: Why was the BoM written?
~Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God
-Why?
1. Show
-The tender mercies of the Lord are over all who have faith
2. Convince
-The BoM teaches the same principles that the Bible teaches. They go hand-in- hand
3. Know
-Try the challenge! Read the BoM, then pray to know if it is true. You will find an answer.

-The Book of Mormon and the Bible are both books of truth written by ancient prophets, who were inspired by Heavenly Father to write what they wrote. The Book of Mormon is the "keystone" to our religion, and is the fullness of the Gospel in the Latter Days (the time that we live in right now). The Book of Mormon provides answers to some of the principles mentioned in the Bible that may be unclear or not fully described. Without the Book of Mormon, the Bible can be interpreted in many different ways, as evidenced by the many different churches alive in our day. However, with the Book of Mormon, the Bible can be easily understood and principles are explained in more detail. The Book of Mormon and Bible go hand-in-hand; they teach the same principles and clarify each other. With both books, we have the fullness of Christ's Gospel in our day! I've made a little diagram to help understand this truth:

-Reading the BoM is like playing the piano-- even if we make a mistake and don't practice reading it perfectly every day, we are still getting better at reading and understanding it every time we read it. Even if we don't practice perfectly, that doesn't mean that we can't keep trying and working toward reading with all our might, mind, and strength.
*When you hesitate sharing the Gospel, think to yourself, "Am I going to let my pride or fear get in the way of sharing this wonderful message with this Child of God?
-Are we saved by the grace of Christ? Of course. But that isn't enough. We also need to be cleansed and renewed by His Infinite and Eternal Atonement.
